Single Ply Roofing
TPO, PVC, and EPDM roofing systems in Tulsa
Single ply roofing refers to any roofing systems that utilize a single layer of material for long-lasting performance and convenient installation. This type of roofing has become favored in commercial roofing, especially in the last three decades, because of its mutual benefits for both consumers and contractors.
There are three main types of single ply roofing. Each one involves the same, single-layered system but uses different materials to manufacture that membrane. The systems include:
- Thermal Polymer Olefin (TPO): This membrane is created combining several materials using a thermal reactor at the molecular level. Because of this specialized process, TPO roofing is extremely resistant to tears, punctures, and uplift. When materials are mixed at a molecular level, they essentially combine to become one, making separation virtually impossible. This single ply system is lightweight while maintaining strength.
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC): PVC roofing is comprised of three main elements—carbon, hydrogen, and chlorine. The elements are combined at the molecular level, heating the materials enough to fuse together and become solid upon cooling. PVC roofing is a solid, continuous membrane and has the longest lasting record of use.
- Ethylene Propylene Diene Terpolymer (EPDM): Known for being environmentally friendly and easy to install, EPDM roofing is a durable synthetic membrane made from a combination of oil and natural gas derivatives. It comes in a wide range of widths, shapes, and can be manufactured at a thickness of either 45 mils or 60 mils.
